What is IP Address?
An internet protocol address (IP Address) is assigned to the device when
the device connects to any network including Internet. IP address is
used to identify the device in the network therefore each device is
assigned a unique IP address.
IP Address specifies the source and destination for the data transferred
through the network.
IPv4 (Internet Protocol Version 4 Address) consists of four numbers
between 0 and 255. Numbers are usually separated by the dot (.). The
address size of IPv4 is 32 bits.
Example of IPv4 address:
127.0.0.123
The next generation internet protocol which is called IPv6 (Internet
Protocol Version 6 ) has the address size of 128 bits.
Example of IPv6:
2012:0db4:85a1:08d1:1229:8a1e:0350:7234
